When it comes to transporting booze from A to B, our US cousins across the pond have got things down to a fine art. We’re not entirely sure why – perhaps it’s because American bars aren’t as nice places to drink as the good old fashioned British pub (Wetherspoons excepted, obviously). But we do like the fact that over in the States you can often walk into a taproom and leave with a growler or a howler full of your favourite hazy pale ale, fruity IPA or hard cider. If you’re a little confused, let us explain. A growler is a 64oz beer jug that holds approximately 4 US pints (which are a little smaller than our pints. And yet they tell you everything is bigger in the USA). A ‘half growler,’ or howler, holds 32oz, or just under a litre of beer.
