The Snack Sack is an over-the-shoulder cool bag that will comfortably take a picnic for two, and KAVU’s designers note that it is the ideal size for a six-pack of bottles or a twelve-pack of cans – which may alert you to its true purpose. It’s fully insulated, so stick an ice pack in there and whatever you choose to stock your Snack Sack with will keep cold all day long. The adjustable shoulder strap is attached with metal hardware, so even if the contents are of a heavier and more liquid variety, you’re not going to break it. You’ve also got two external pockets for cutlery and other bits, plus a padded grab handle and some trademark KAVU webbing loops for attaching any extras that won’t fit inside
Now here’s an origin story for you. Back in the early nineties, fishing boat skipper Barry Barr was fed up with wearing cheap trucker caps that got snatched off his head in storms, never to be seen again. He decided to make a super-durable cap that wouldn’t blow off whatever the weather, and he did it by stitching the webbing material from a Teva sandal all the way around the crown. Turned out his ‘Strapcap’ was a hit, and KAVU was born.
From humble beginnings flogging Strapcaps out of the boot of his car in Seattle, Barry’s since expanded to produce a whole array of durable outdoor kit with a laid-back, van-lifer vibe.
