A microwavable metal food container might sound like some form of black magic, but the team at Black+Blum turned their design skills to maximum to make it a reality. Using stainless steel and their engineering prowess they’ve made sure you can bring your lunch to and from the office in a durable and totally leak proof container and not have to worry about decanting it into a bowl to heat it up. The vent in the lid means you can keep it on while it’s warming up, cutting down how long it needs to stay in the microwave and also avoids messy splashes. You can also use it in the oven (minus the lid), and cleaning is a breeze as it’s dishwasher safe.

Notes from Black+Blum
How does it work in the microwave?
Yes, you read that right, these steel boxes are microwave-safe. We know that everyone was taught that metal cannot go in the microwave, but it’s only partly true. There are definitely some metals that should not be placed in a microwave, however, this does not include the high-quality stainless steel that we use. This type of steel, combined with the smooth and rounded shape of the steel boxes, means they will not cause sparking and are safe to use in the microwave. They adhere to extremely high safety standards and have been tested rigorously.
Is there anything I need to know about microwaving these boxes?
Yes, there's a few things to consider when microwaving these boxes, from both a safety perspective and also to prolong the life of the product:
Are there any foods I should avoid when using these boxes in the microwave?
You should avoid foods that heat to extreme temperatures, like popcorn or sugar, as these can cause burn marks. Also, please note that very oily or acidic food (such as tomato soup) may also cause staining and even burn marks on the lids. Please note that burn or stain marks will not affect the functionality or safety of the product. When microwaving any acidic foods, stir frequently to avoid splashing the lid and limit microwave time to 2 minute intervals.
Can I also microwave the lid?
Yes! We have specifically designed the lid to remove the need for single-use plastic cling film to prevent splatter when microwaving. Just ensure the lid lock is popped open (to prevent pressure build up and to release steam), and you’re good to go.
Environmental Initiatives : Each time you invest in a Black+Blum product they donate at least 1% of your order value to charities that help fight food waste by rescuing good food that would otherwise go to landfills
Built to last is not usually something you associate with lunch boxes. But when Dan Black, the lead designer at Black and Blum, turned his attention to designing their first product in 2010 the aim was to provide a different option from the mix of takeaway cartons and cheap, leaky lunchboxes people were making do with. Over 14 years, and 25 design awards later, the range has expanded to include insulating food containers, bottles and almost anything you need to bring food and drink on the go. Not content with just making ‘nice looking things’ they’ve consistently pushed the envelope and from totally leak-proof options to microwavable metal lunch boxes and continue to set the standard for great looking, long lasting products to make sure you can bring tasty meals wherever you’re heading. They’re also a member of 1% For the Planet and work with local groups to help reduce food waste in London. Cracking.
