At first glance, the Allterrain Hike from Sandqvist looks like a bum-bag, but it's actually more of a sling. It's designed to be worn cross-body, and the straps are angled accordingly. With a four-litre capacity, this one is aimed squarely at the fast-and-light day-hiking crowd. There's space for a drink, snacks and a few small essentials, while the bungee web on the lid will hold a lightweight shell. Daisy-chain webbing provides gear attachment points for odds and ends, and compression straps on the side keep the whole thing trimmed in. Founded in 2004 by three childhood mates living in Stockholm, the idea was to create bags that weren't tied to a single environment. These are bags designed to do more with less – and that carries through into the materials and manufacture too. The durable polyester and nylon fabrics are 100% recycled from post-consumer or industrial waste, and supply chains are regularly audited for working conditions and environmental impact. The leather is a by-product of high-welfare Scandinavian meat and dairy herds, processed by independently certified tanneries – and in some cases they also produce vegan versions of their packs.
