Snow Peak's Alpha Direct range is built around Polartec Alpha Direct – an active insulation fabric originally developed for US Special Operations Forces, where the brief was simple: breathable warmth that doesn't quit under high-exertion conditions. The fabric works through a mesh grid of lofted polyester fibres that trap warm air while simultaneously allowing excess body heat to escape, so you stay warm without overheating. It's inherently hydrophobic, dries fast, and unlike standard fleece, functions well whether you're moving hard or standing still. Available here as a unisex hoodie and pullover in the 90g/m² weight – a considered mid-layer for active days in cold conditions, and a definite step up from a conventional fleece. Pairs best with a windproof shell when the weather turns real.
