Kasuri-dyed yarn gives this design its signature splashed, asymmetric pattern, so every pair comes out looking subtly different – more like a tie-dye print than a standard sock design. The yarn mix is mostly combed cotton to give the colour plenty of pop, but it’s also blended with wool and synthetics to add warmth, stretch and durability. If you haven’t come across Anonymous Ism’s socks yet, then they’re on a whole different level to your standard saggy supermarket jobs. Proudly designed and manufactured in Japan, they use old-school traditional knitting machines that take a lot longer to work, but craft a seriously superior sock.
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade – at least, you do if you’re premium Japanese sock brand, Anonymous Ism. After their factory burned down in a catastrophic fire, they saw the chance to rebuild better, switching almost entirely to solar energy. They still use traditional knitting machines to produce incredibly high-spec socks, just as they’ve always done, but the power driving them is a whole lot cleaner than the competition.
That same long view carries through to how the business treats its people. These socks aren’t contracted out overseas to the lowest bidder – they’re proudly Japanese-made by specialists who’ve made a career out of their craft. Every pair is designed and knitted in Japan using top-quality yarns – from psychedelic kasuri-dyed cotton to Nordic-style jacquard-pattern socks in durable wool-blend fibres.
For Anonymous Ism, ‘sustainability’ is about more than just using recycled or organic materials; it means keeping skilled craftsmanship alive, investing heavily in renewable energy and making the best product possible. If you agree, why not vote with your feet?
