One of the lightest, warmest and most refined backpacking quilts on the market, Neve Gear’s Waratah has already developed a cult following in its native Australia. Why? Because it combines premium 850+FP Ultrasonic Muscovy Down fill with a soft, light yet tough nylon shell, a comfortable yet thermally efficient fit, a versatile open footbox, and offset pad-strap attachments that all help to ensure cosy, restful nights on the trail or in the mountains, without cold spots or chilly draughts. If you’re looking for exceptional performance at minimum weight, in a package that’s built for ultralighters by ultralighters, you want the Waratah. Its adaptable design also gives you plenty of control over how you sleep. Seal the quilt up around you when temperatures drop, or open it out and use it more like a blanket in warmer conditions.

Choose the quilt length based on your height and sleeping position.
If you’re up to around 6'½" and mainly sleep on your back/side, the regular length should generally work well. If you’re taller than that, we recommend sizing up to the long length for a little more room.
If you’re a stomach sleeper, you may also want to size up if you’re close to the height limit. Sleeping on your stomach with your toes pointed away from you effectively increases your sleeping length, so the quilt can feel shorter than it would for a back or side sleeper.
As a general rule, if you’re close to the maximum height for a size, especially if you sleep on your stomach, we recommend going up a length.

Store your quilt uncompressed in its storage sack in a cool, dry environment when off the trail. This helps maintain the down’s loft and prevents moisture build-up.
Avoid leaving your quilt compressed in its dry bag for extended periods. Air it out regularly between trips to help maintain loft and performance, particularly in humid conditions.
Our recommendation is to only wash your quilt when you notice it isn't lofting as fully as it used to. Washing down unnecessarily can shorten the lifespan of the materials, so there's no need to wash it on a regular schedule.
The fledgling outdoor industry was really defined by a single ethos: if you can’t find what you need, make it yourself. In the early days, there was no marketing strategy, no retail concept; just a small band of dedicated hikers, backpackers and climbers turning out apparel and equipment from their own back bedrooms, garages and kitchen tables.
Times have changed but luckily, that DIY spirit is still alive and kicking in Australia. Back in 2022, it provided the impetus for Neve Gear. The brainchild of Ryan Barth, the brand was founded after a fruitless search for an ultralight backpacking quilt before tackling the Great North Walk, a 260km bushwalk through New South Wales. Existing domestic brands either had crazy lead times, limited production or next to no product choice, whilst getting anything imported proved astronomically expensive once you added shipping, duties and taxes.
Solution? He went away and developed the Waratah quilt: meticulously designed, ethically manufactured and fairly priced. From the start, Neve Gear never cut corners when it came to production either. In fact, their down quilts come out of the same trusted factory as products from major brands like Sea to Summit and Mammut.
The Waratah and Waratah Pro trade punches with these big names and more. In fact, we truly believe they are best in class: ultra-premium Muscovy down fill, superlight yet tough nylon shells, user-specific sizing and some of the best warmth for weight on the market.
