The 1970s has a lot to answer for. And we don’t just mean terrible wallpaper and ridiculous hairstyles. It was also the decade of polyester, the so-called wonder fabric that gave rise to some pretty dire leisurewear, including the fleece jacket. Fleeces were comfy, warm and breathable – but it also turns out that they’re terrible for the planet. That’s because every time you wear or wash a polyester fleece, they shed tiny microplastics that end up polluting rivers, oceans and ecosystems. Which is why this cosy fleece hoodie isn’t made from synthetic polyester at all. Instead, it’s made from natural fibres, namely 100% organic cotton.
