Dressed for Valhalla

Asgard, if you recall, was the home of the Norse gods – and this Asgard hoodie from PrAna is engineered for Nordic-level cold. The heavyweight 300gsm flannel shell is made from a rugged 55% wool blend fabric, and when you open it up, you'll find a quilted lining with a generous recycled polyester fill. The three-piece drawstring-adjustable hood is lined too, providing both warmth and Odin-like mystique when necessary. You've also got handwarmer pockets in the side seams, though in fact the front, cuffs and chest pockets all feature poppers, so there'll be no fumbling with buttons when your fingers are cold. This is clothing with a conscience (unlike those mischievous gods of Asgard) – and pretty much all the fibres in the fabric and lining have been recycled

  • The need for shorts that offered supreme comfort and mobility was the starting point for PrAna, the California brand founded in 1992 by husband-and-wife team Beaver and Pam Theodosakis. Working out of a small garage in the coastal city of Carlsbad, the duo set out on a journey to make stylish and functional activewear. But there was a higher purpose too – namely, respect for the planet and its people. From the outset, they committed to sustainability and lessening the environmental impact of everything they made.

It was an ethos rooted in the realisation that everything is connected. This concept was encapsulated in the name that Beaver and Pam chose for their brand, prana. It’s a Sanskrit word that literally translates as ‘breath’, but which refers to the universal energy that flows within and among us, connecting us with all other living beings. So, for PrAna, what you wear matters. It matters firstly because clothing that gives you the freedom to move inspires you to chase adventures and stay active. But secondly, it matters because sustainable clothing lessens our impact on the planet. It’s the right thing to do – and the right thing to wear.
