Hard yucca
The Yucca Valley pants from prAna are designed as heavy-duty climbing trousers. Constructed in a heavyweight organic cotton that's tough enough not to get chewed up by rough rock surfaces, they've cut it with 2% elastane for plenty of stretch. Other tweaks to keep you comfortable when you're doing your best impression of a gecko include a slightly tapered fit that's engineered to pair comfortably with a climbing harness, as well as an inseam gusset for stretch and ventilation. An adjustable cotton waistband keeps everything nicely cinched in, whether you're tackling tricky ascents or setting up the awning on your camper van. And that's the thing about these super strides, because while they do make great climbing pants, the Yucca Valleys are also fantastic for travel and everyday use. Comfortable and well-fitting, they've got that rugged, workwear-style vibe where they'll look even better with some scuffs and scars.

The need for shorts that offered supreme comfort and mobility was the starting point for PrAna, the California brand founded in 1992 by husband-and-wife team Beaver and Pam Theodosakis. Working out of a small garage in the coastal city of Carlsbad, the duo set out on a journey to make stylish and functional activewear. But there was a higher purpose too – namely, respect for the planet and its people. From the outset, they committed to sustainability and lessening the environmental impact of everything they made.
It was an ethos rooted in the realisation that everything is connected. This concept was encapsulated in the name that Beaver and Pam chose for their brand, prana. It’s a Sanskrit word that literally translates as ‘breath’, but which refers to the universal energy that flows within and among us, connecting us with all other living beings. So, for PrAna, what you wear matters. It matters firstly because clothing that gives you the freedom to move inspires you to chase adventures and stay active. But secondly, it matters because sustainable clothing lessens our impact on the planet. It’s the right thing to do – and the right thing to wear.
