Unpredictable weather and unpredictable women want reliable coats

You know those days where the sun’s out but it’s looking kinda like it might rain? You don’t want to take a full waterproof with you but neither are you confident that it’s going to be blue skies and sunshine all the way. This jacket is made for those days. Those cool spring days, those ‘getting too close to the waterfall days’, those days begging for spontaneous adventure. The Whistler, from outdoor adventure brand prAna, is a light weight, windproof, water resistant jacket made from purely recycled nylon. That means it’s strong enough to withstand even the rockiest exploits and, because it’s ripstop, if it does get torn, it’s easily repairable. With water-resistant zips and a PFC-free water repellent coating, droplets roll straight off it, and it’s fully windproof so adds an extra layer of warmth when you step up into that cold mountain air. When you don’t need it, it squashes down into its own pocket. Then, when you’ve finally worn it to death, because it’s 100% unblended nylon, it can be recycled again. Off to start its own adventure, as you should be. Right now

The need for shorts that offered supreme comfort and mobility was the starting point for PrAna, the California brand founded in 1992 by husband-and-wife team Beaver and Pam Theodosakis. Working out of a small garage in the coastal city of Carlsbad, the duo set out on a journey to make stylish and functional activewear. But there was a higher purpose too – namely, respect for the planet and its people. From the outset, they committed to sustainability and lessening the environmental impact of everything they made.

It was an ethos rooted in the realisation that everything is connected. This concept was encapsulated in the name that Beaver and Pam chose for their brand, prana. It’s a Sanskrit word that literally translates as ‘breath’, but which refers to the universal energy that flows within and among us, connecting us with all other living beings. So, for PrAna, what you wear matters. It matters firstly because clothing that gives you the freedom to move inspires you to chase adventures and stay active. But secondly, it matters because sustainable clothing lessens our impact on the planet. It’s the right thing to do – and the right thing to wear.
