Strong, durable and lightweight one-person tunnel tent
Offering both strength and durability in a lightweight package, the Lightwave Trail series is a range of affordable performance tents optimised for wild camping, backpacking and long-distance trekking. Utilising the tried-and-tested tunnel shape with an arched pole design for added rigidity, they are built from proven fabrics and components to give outstanding all-round performance. With the versatility to pitch flysheet-first, inner-tent first, or all-in-one, they’re well suited to a range of different weather conditions in all seasons. With a specification that focuses on robust handling and long-term durability, these are tents that can be truly used and abused – whether you’re tackling the Cape Wrath Trail or wild camping in the mountains of Snowdonia.
- The fabrics used in the trail tents strike an excellent balance of strength and weight
- The trail tents multi-pitch options. This means they can be erected flysheet-first, inner-tent first, or integrally.
- Each trail tent comes with two types of peg to cover different ground conditions – from hard-packed earth to loose sandy soil.
- Lightwave gives a Lifetime Guarantee to the original owner against defects in materials and craftmanship

- The trail flysheet is made from nylon with a yarn thickness of 40 denier. Lightwave has been using this fabric in its robust trek range for the past ten years: there is no better balance between strength (high), weight (low) and price (medium).
- The trail groundsheet is made from a truly heavyweight 200-denier nylon, which is twice the denier (yarn thickness) of most groundsheet fabrics and makes it exceptionally tough.
- Trail tents use the workhorse 7001-T6 aluminium alloy that is the standard pole-set material for the vast majority of lightweight tents. The reason is simple – 7001-T6 aluminium alloy is very resilient, extremely well-proven and carries a very small weight penalty over marginally lighter, stiffer alloys.
When New Zealander Carol McDermott first began designing outdoor gear, his main concern was creating lightweight, high-performing kit that would give him an edge in the mountains - you know, the kind of gear without bells and whistles that serious climbers and trekkers crave. So when he founded Lightwave, McDermott didn’t change a thing - and that’s why we love it.
