Hailing from the lumber camps of the Pacific north-west, Filson's iconic oilcloth jackets are fantastic for life in the field, but they're fundamentally working garments – often featuring stiff, heavyweight fabrics and boxy cuts. For a more versatile half-way house between back-country functionality and everyday use, get a load of this new Ranger Short Field Jacket. Rather than Filson's usual oil-finish Tin Cloth, it's constructed in a much lighter 4oz dry-wax cotton from British Millerain, with a flattering hip-length cut that looks as good around town as it does in the country. It's fully lined in a mix of lightweight canvas and polyester taffeta, with soft cotton cavalry twill around the collar. Weather-resistant and good-looking, it's sort of a cross between your US-style chore coat and the classic British countryman's waxed jacket.
