Hands up who else loves a cotton smock? It's the perfect lightweight protection shell, whether you're layering it over a tee in summer or a woolly in shoulder season. This one from hugely popular Japanese brand, Snow Peak, takes the traditional cotton smock with front patch pockets and adds a drawstring-adjustable hood, converting it into a sort of lightweight parka that reminds us of those iconic British Army cadet smocks from the 70s. Made in a soft cotton weave that's 20% recycled, the dyes are 100% plant-based. Depending on the colour, your parka might have been coloured with fermented indigo pigment or the dried galls of the Chinese Sumac tree – a black tannic dye that's been used in Japan since the ninth century
