Super-stable head torch for mountain missions
If you’re up in the early hours for an Alpine start or heading out on an evening trail run, you’ll need a head torch that will pierce even the gloomiest of nights. Problem is, the most powerful lamps tend to be big and bulky – which makes them unwieldy and unstable, especially when moving quickly in the mountains. Not Black Diamond’s Distance LT 1100. The bounce-free design features a slim, pivoting lens assembly, while the main rechargeable battery housing remains fixed and stable against the headband. PowerTap technology can also temporarily boost the light to an incredible 1100 lumens with a simple tap. A host of other user-focused features makes this the ideal lamp for trail runners, night hikers and mountain athletes alike.
- Low profile, suspended headband provides superior comfort during use
- Pivoting light engine keeps the mass of the battery close to body to minimise bounce and movement while running
- Battery provides over 4 hours of light at max setting (600 lumens) on a single charge
- PowerTap Technology boosts beam to max power of 1100 lumens (dims automatically after 10 seconds to save battery life)
- Rechargeable 2,200 mAh li-ion battery charges via USB-C port and can be swapped out on the go
- Additional 3-color LED (red, green, blue) for versatile lighting modes
- Multifaceted optical lens design provides a combination of depth lighting to better spot obstacles and smooth, diffuse light for consistent visibility
- Patented digital lock feature safeguards against accidental use when stored in a pack or pocket
- Dustproof and fully submersible IP67 waterproof rating (tested to withstand total immersion in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes)

- Eco Initiatives: Black Diamond supports environmental not-for-profits, whilst making concerted efforts to use renewable energy and recycle as much waste as possible
The Black Diamond story began with a backyard anvil and a hammer, way back in 1957. The hammer in question was wielded by famous US climber Yvon Chouinard – the same man who would also go on to create outdoor brand Patagonia. Chouinard started hand-forging climbing hardware, selling steel pitons from the back of his car in the hallowed Yosemite Valley. Over the years, that fledgling business morphed into Black Diamond, with Chouinard eventually handing over the reins to an equally dedicated group of former employees.
Steeped in mountain heritage, the brand has continued to build on its legacy through innovative, user-driven design, built for demanding adventures on rock, ice and snow. Today, they make a lot more than merely hardware. Which means that Black Diamond isn’t just for climbers, mountaineers and skiers – their duffel bags, headlamps, lanterns and gloves are all much-loved by hikers, backpackers, campers and global travellers alike.
When it comes to sustainability, the brand also strives to stay true to Chouinard’s original ‘clean climbing’ ethos. As a brand, Black Diamond supports environmental not-for-profits, whilst making concerted efforts to use renewable energy and recycle as much waste as possible. But above all, they believe in sustainability through longevity, which means making kit that will stand the toughest test of all: time.
